Sri Lanka Cops Fire Water Cannons At Tamil Protesters, They Pull Out Shampoo & Wash Hair

Sri Lanka is currently in the middle of the worst financial crisis it has faced since its independence from Britain in 1948. The people of Sri Lanka are protesting against the government for its poor handling of the state’s finances and mass protests are taking place daily for the past year, reported Guardian.

The current situation is extremely tense. According to NDTV, President Ranil Wickremesinghe ordered a 5% reduction in state spending this week. On top of this, the government has claimed that welfare payments for 1.8 million families below the poverty line could be delayed this month. From government job salary cuts to hiked taxes, the country is in economic chaos.

So, when President Ranil Wickremesinghe had a scheduled visit near Jaffna University on Sunday, Tamil protesters gathered to pay him a visit and raise their voices against his governance.

The funny thing is, when the police fired water cannons at them to disperse the crowd, the protesters took out shampoo to apply to their hair and make use of the occasion!

Here is the police firing water cannons at the protesters:

Pictures of the incident were shared by a journalist named Dr. Thusiyan Nandakumar who works for the Tamil Guardian.

“When Sri Lankan police fired water cannons on a protest in Jaffna today… The Tamils pulled out shampoo. You’ve got to love the defiance,” he tweeted.

People online were left amazed by the protesters’ out-of-the-box thinking. While some called them absolute bosses, others highlighted that when life gives you lemons, make lemonade!

Never seen a protest like this before! 😛
