‘Beautiful Women’ Will Feel Safe Enough To Go Out At Night In Delhi, Says Somnath Bharti

It’s not surprising to see our politicians making blunders when it comes to public speaking. This time, it was the former Law Minister of Delhi, Somnath Bharti.

According to Somnath Bharti, if the Aam Aadmi Government headed by Arvind Kejriwal is granted control of Delhi Police, then they would definitely improve the security so that the ‘beautiful women’ can go out even at midnight.

He said, “I am fully confident that if Delhi government is given full freedom (over security), beautiful women will be able to go out even after midnight without any fear. We will provide a fully-secure Delhi.”

He made this statement during a discussion on setting up of ‘Commission of Inquiry’ in the Delhi Assembly yesterday.

After receiving backlash from various places including opposition parties on the unnecessary usage of the term ‘beautiful’, he received a sarcastic remark form his wife, Lipika Mitra.

When asked for an explanation, he said, “When I was a child, my grandfather used to tell me that during the British rule, the security was so tight that beautiful women laden with jewelry could travel from Kanyakumari to Kashmir at midnight without being touched. I’ve just used a proverb to set a benchmark for a secure environment where every woman should feel safe.”

Well, it’s high time Somnath Bharti starts quietly repeating things to himself before saying it in public.
