Social media- The place where you can hang out with friends, share your thoughts & posts random snaps to show the world. But as they say, every coin has two sides, excessive use of social media leads to many problems. No, I’m not giving you a philosophical talk, I’m talking about real problems, as these guys came to find out. Let’s have a look at some stupid folks who got busted on social media:
1. These airline employees got fired because of online rants about the passengers
13 employees of Virgin Atlantic were fired after their rants against the passengers and flight’s safety standards. They reportedly called the passengers as “Chavs” (a derogatory British term for a young lower-class person who displays brash and loutish behaviour and wears real or imitation designer clothes). Apparently the employees didn’t know that FB posts can be read by their employers too. I guess they found it the hard way.
2. Bankers who thought ISIS killings are a joke
These HSBC employees tried to imitate ISIS beheading as a joke and needless to say, they were sacked by their employers for their insensitive and “abhorrent” post on social media.
3. This Man who threatened his boss on Facebook
A Time Warner cable company employee was arrested after his drunk Facebook rant about his boss in which he threatened to “blow” his supervisor’s head off with a machine gun. He was arrested on the charges of a terrorist threat and misdemeanor counts of aggravated harassment. I bet you never thought a drunk FB post can land you in so much trouble, did you?
4. Teacher’s aide was arrested for letting three cheerleaders drink at her house with her teenage son
Mary Ellen Hause, who worked as a part-time teaching aide at a school was arrested after a photograph of her’s along with three underage cheerleaders holding Smirnoff bottles was posted on Facebook. She apparently is a very “cool” mom who allowed her son’s friends to drink and party in her house.
5. A juror in the United Kingdom was dismissed after asking her Facebook friends about their opinion on an ongoing trial
A female juror was dismissed from a trial after she posted details of the case on Facebook and then asked her friends for their opinions on the case and if they thought the defendants were guilty.
6. EPIC FAIL! – After a night of heavy drinking, Doyle called in sick and posted on his Facebook timeline, “not going to work, f**k it i’m still trashed SICKIE WOO.”
Kyle Doyle faked sickness and took leave from work after a night of partying. All was going well until he decided to brag about it on Facebook. He posted a status saying “not going to work, f… it i’m still trashed. SICKIE WOO!”, which his boss saw. So next time you fake sickness to take a leave, choose you FB statuses really carefully.
7. A woman lost her insurance after posting pictures on Facebook
In a bizarre incident, an insurance company dropped Nathalie Blanchard from coverage after watching her holiday pictures on Facebook. She was suffering from severe depression. Her coverage was dropped after the insurance company found her smiling pictures clicked at the beach. Manulife even hired a private investigator and asked a doctor to re-evaluate Blanchard. The case was settled out of court.
8. This woman forgot that she had her boss added as a friend on Facebook
Employers don’t take it very well when you rant on Facebook about how much you hate your job and especially don’t like it when you call them a “total pervy wanker”. This woman was fired on FB itself.
9. This woman got fired because of her racist tweet about Africa
“Going to Africa. Hope I don’t get AIDS. Just kidding. I’m white!” is what Justine Sacco wrote on Twitter which ignited a firestorm. She was fired from her PR job in 2013 for her racist tweet.
10. This Taco Bell employee got fired for uploading a picture of him licking shells
Well, what did he expect? The picture was uploaded by his co-worker Jj O’Brien Nolan on Facebook which got his friend fired.
11. Wendy’s employee after his picture of him guzzling frosty went viral
The photo surfaced on Reddit (“I was going to buy a frosty from Wendys until I saw the employee do this,” the poster wrote) and went viral. Wendy’s later responded via Twitter, “Unacceptable. The person in this photo is no longer at this Wendy’s. We will be reinforcing proper procedures.”
12. A Buckingham Palace guard got fired for putting up an indecent tweet about Kate Middleton
This is what the tweet said: “hur and william drove past me on friday n all a got was a shitty wave while she looked the opposite way from me, stupid stuck up cow am a not good enough for them! posh bitch am totally with u on this 1 who reely gives a f*** about hur!”
Take some lessons people, and always think before you post!
