Parents Protest As Kolkata School ‘Accuse’ 10 Students Of Being Lesbians

The LGBTQIA community faces a lot of discrimination from the society which has made the word ‘gay’ a slur. It is, unfortunately, very common to hear slightly effeminate guys or slightly tomboy girls being teased as gay, by others who don’t consider them ‘normal’.

Something similar happened in Kamala Girls School in South Kolkata where the school accused 10 girl students of indulging in homosexuality and is trying to set them on the “right course”.

(Whatever that means).

The matter came to light when the parents of the accused girls stormed the school campus and had a verbal spat with the Principal, reported India Today. The parents also accused the Principal of taking written admission forcefully.

As reported by Times Now, the acting Principal received a complaint of homosexual behaviour and investigated the matter. She said,

“Some students had complained against 10 students of indulging in such behaviour. We called those students and they admitted it. Considering the sensitive nature of the issue, I asked them to admit it in writing.

She also added that she called the parents so that together they can set the girls on the “right course”.

I have got written admissions from all 10 students. Today we called the guardians to apprise them of the issue. Our aim was to discuss the matter with them so that we can bring these girls on the right course through efforts both at home and in school.”

The parents of the girls rubbished the claims of the Principal and said,

“If two persons hold hands or put an arm on each other shoulders, that does not mean they are lesbians.”

The girls who have allegedly admitted to being lesbian do not need to be set on the “right path” and told that their sexual identity is wrong and “unnatural”. What they need is just a little bit of support.
