Weightlifter Sanjita Chanu Bags India’s 2nd Gold Medal At CWG 2018 And Twitter’s Celebrating

Sanjita Chanu

India is absolutely crushing it at the Commonwealth Games 2018 taking place in Australia. We are currently at 3rd position in the medal tally after Gururaja Poojary’s silver, Mirabai Chanu’s record-breaking gold and yet another victory today.

After Mirabai’s glorious victory yesterday, India has just won its second gold! Sanjita Chanu made this possible by winning the first place in weightlifting in the women’s 53 kg category.

In doing so, she has also set a new Commonwealth Games record by lifting 84kg in snatch and then lifted 108 in clean & jerk.

That’s a whopping 10 kg more than the defending champion, Loa Dika Toua of Papua New Guinea who claimed silver with a total lift of 182.

Congratulations have been pouring in for the star from all over and Twitter is truly celebrating this glorious win:

1. Golden girl for the win!

2. Another proud moment for India.

3. A glorious start to the day.

4. Team India be the best.

5. Our girls proving who’s the boss.

6. Congratulations!

7. This former Olympian sends his wishes.

8. Viru Paji saying it as it is!

9. Even the God of Cricket praised her.

10. Women power!

This moment is extra sweet for Chanu as this is the same venue where she won gold in the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships last year. This 24-year-old from Manipur is a true symbol of nari shakti. Great going Sanjita! You’ve made us all infinitely proud.
