Mirabai Chanu Made India Proud By Bringing Home The Gold And Breaking All Records At CWG 2018

Anything the world can do, Indians can do better. Be it science, culture or sports, we’re excellent at whatever comes our way.

2018 Commonwealth Games had a brilliant start and now India won its first gold medal. Mirabai Chanu made us swell with pride by securing the first position in weightlifting at Gold Coast on Thursday.

Chanu, who is in the women’s 48 Kg category, broke her own record and set a new Commonwealth record by lifting 196 Kg. The previous record was held by Augustine Nwaokolo of Nigeria in 2010 for 175 Kg.

The news came right after Gururaja Poojary won us the silver in men’s 56 Kg category.

Congratulatory wishes have been pouring in from all over the country. It is a moment of great pride and celebration for us, and we have Chanu to thank.

1. Our star boxer Mary Kom sends her wishes.

2. Anil Kapoor was one of the first B-townie to wish her.

3. All Hail Nari Shakti – Mirabai Chanu.

4. You know it’s a good day when you wake up to this news.

5. Former Olympic Athlete Brindra surely knows the pressure.

6. Star wrestler Geeta Phogat is proud.

7. Girl in glittering gold.

8. “Nari Shakti at its best.”

9. We have a record-breaker, guys!

10. Super proud.

11. May the odds be ever in our favour!

Chanu already has her eyes on the next games and she’s excited about it too. According to Hindustan Times, she said,

“I want to do well in the Asian Games and win a gold medal there next.”

We pray that you achieve gold in Asian Games too, Mirabai. But for now, we’re going to revel in your glorious victory and celebrate you bringing home the gold. Humari choriyan choro se bilkul kam nahi.
