Sanjay Manjrekar Calling Dhoni ‘Captain’ During The Third ODI Is Basically Everyone Of Us

When Mahendra Singh Dhoni took a sudden decision to step down as the captain of the Indian team in limited overs cricket, it took the entire cricketing world by storm. Indian fans have seen him as a captain for the last 10 years and it was very difficult to even imagine someone else as the skipper when Dhoni is in the side.

Even Dhoni himself forgot that he was the captain during the first ODI against England at Pune and asked the umpire for a decision review without asking the new skipper, Virat Kohli. And something similar happened during the third ODI as well.

It was the 15th over of England’s innings during the third ODI at Kolkata on Sunday when commentator Sanjay Manjrekar made an honest mistake. Sanjay accidently called MS Dhoni the captain of the Indian team.

Yuvraj Singh was bowling to Sam Billings in the over. As one ball hit him straight on the pads, everyone appealed for an LBW. As the umpire gave him not out, Kohli rushed towards Dhoni to ask if DRS should be used. After Dhoni said no, Manjrekar said,

“Kohli ends up taking the verdict of the captain.”

Soon, Sanjay realised his mistake and corrected it by saying ‘Former Captain’.

Looks like it is going to take some time for every one of us to accept the fact that MSD is not India’s captain anymore.
