The Hound from the Game of Thrones is one of those characters who grew on us eventually. We began from hating the character to spotting his soft side to ultimately cheering for him towards the end. The Hound was indeed a mix of several emotions and characteristic traits, not entirely bad or good, just like every other GOT character.
The actor who played The Hound, Rory McCann, did a pretty job in bringing Sandor Clegane to life. We were pretty surprised to see he made it till the finale! However, behind all the glory and fame that came with GOT lies a tale of immense struggle.
According to a report by The Independent, Rory McCann recently spoke about his struggling days on the Game of Thrones Reunion Special. He spoke about how he literally lived in a tent and occasionally “stole” food to survive.
“I was in a tent – literally in a tent – stealing food occasionally. Eventually, I got a job and sorted myself out, but then suddenly I’m getting driven around in a nice car in the biggest and best show in the world – just shows how your fortunes can change. Amazing.”
He revealed how he ended up in Iceland in the first place:
“I had made a Viking film with Gerard Butler and after filming I just went, ‘I’m staying,’ and was there for 11 months. There wasn’t any acting work at the time. I had said to my agent to phone if anything was happening but it wasn’t, so I just stayed.”
He was apparently the “only man living on the whole island”. Which is why a few locals found a place for him to live and Rory soon found work as a carpenter.
Even after becoming a huge star, thanks to GOT, he never forgot the time he spent in Iceland.
“I managed to go back (to Iceland) and pay my library fines,” he said.
Even though GOT is over, The Hound will forever be in our hearts. And so will everyone else!
