Ram Rahim Had Planned A Filmy Escape Right After His Conviction. Here’s How It Failed Badly.

It’s been a few days since Dera Sacha Saud chief, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s conviction but the drama is still unfolding, in ways more than one. And when I say drama I mean, Hindi films/Bollywood script drama! And FYI, castrating 400 men to form a ‘Qurbani Dal‘ was nothing.

Just to brush your memory, a special CBI court heard arguments on the quantum of punishment to the Godman in a 2002 rape case inside the District Jail at Sunaria near Rohtak and sentenced him to 20 years in jail. While the rampage and riot had started even before the verdict, a storm was brewing after it.

According to The Quint, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was all geared to flee the prison and he would have, had it not been for the Haryana police. 

Yes, you heard that right! The report states that the 51-year-old Baba had planned a filmy escape from the Panchkula Court on the day he was convicted.

Mind you, the conspiracy was no less than a Hindi masala film where Ram Rahim had an army of armed followers waiting for his cue- a red bag. Inspector General of Police, KK Rao said,

“The moment the judgment was out, baba told us that he needed his red bag from the car as it contained his clothes.

We sent someone to get the bag. By the time the bag reached the courtroom, I could see that violence had erupted at least 2 kilometres from the court.”

He also confirmed that the Ram Rahim had briefed his men about the entire plan which revolved around the red bag.

Needless to say, it was a signal he used to convey that he has been convicted. 

“We could sense that something was wrong; Baba was trying to send signals to his supporters.”

Reportedly, as soon as the bag was taken out of the Baba’s SUV, sounds of tear gas shells were heard about 2-3 km from the court.

It was the same red bag which Deputy Attorney General, Gurdas Singh Salwara was seen carrying. It incidentally led to his firing.

But that was just one part of the plan. The accused, along with his adopted daughter, Honeypreet Insaan even tried to stall the police, in a bid to buy more time. 

“By standing outside the courtroom on court premises, he wanted to know whether his supporters had gotten wind of his conviction. When he heard the tear gas being fired, he knew that the violence had broken out,” said KK Rao. 

But the cops knew better. They were quick to devise an alternate plan, to foil Baba’s attempt at escape. Which in-turn led to a dramatic tussle between Ram Rahim’s followers and the police. KK Rao added,

The cops subsequently asked the Army if police could bring Ram Rahim to the Cantonment area, leaving the miscreants no time to think. In fact, it was a tense cat-and-mouse game until Ram Rahim was sent to Rohtak Jail in the special chopper.

Some planning, eh? Needless to say, a lot could have gone down if the cops had not meddled.
