Know More About Radha Kapoor, The Lady Who Lit Up The IPL 2016 Award Ceremony

IPL’s over, Sunrisers won, RCB rocked, awards were presented and you notice a woman who presented an award. Maybe you didn’t recognize her, but should you know her: definitely yes.

Here’s why.

Radha Kapoor (@Radha_Kapoor) is a ‘creative entrepreneur’ who has many feathers in her cap. She’s been silently making a dent in the Indian startup & education ecosystem with her rare creative insights.

1. She’s the eldest daughter of Rana Kapoor, founder, MD and CEO of YES Bank

With her father having found India’s 5th largest and fastest growing private bank, there’s no prize for guessing that starting up runs in the family.

2. She always knew that her passion lies in creative entrepreneurship. Hence, after completing her studies in fine arts at the Parsons School of Design, she moved back to India to continue her creative pursuit

3. She’s the one who brought NYC’s iconic Parsons School of Design to India

Being a Parsons alum herself, she raised to the occasion when her alma mater was looking to expand to Asia. She setup Indian School Of Design and Innovation (ISDI) in Mumbai, which is home to Parsons.

4. She’s the founder of WPP School of Communication, which is India’s first professional three-year undergraduate program based on a work-study model

And it was inaugurated by Sir Martin Sorrell, chief executive officer of WPP.

5. She cracked a partnership with Microsoft Ventures to setup a Creative Accelerator to promote innovation and tech startups in design

6. Radha also works with underprivileged women and empower them with vocational training

7. She runs a one-of-a-kind “Uber for commercial real estate” co-working space named Awfis to empower aspiring entrepreneurs

Awfis which means “Awesome Office” offers spruced up underutilized spaces in prime locations and rents them to freelancers, startups and SMEs.

8. She promotes important Indian sports like kabaddi and hockey by owning the Delhi franchisee of Pro Kabaddi League and investing in Mumbai franchisee of the Indian Hockey League

And having witnessed her creative zest, there’s not an iota of doubt that the only thing she’s inherited is her father’s attitude: whatever you are thinking…think bigger.

You go, woman.
