#MeToo was one of the revolutionary and path-breaking movements that highlighted that our society needs a deep cleaning. After people across the world opened up about being sexually harassed and molested by others around them, it gave Indian women the courage to openly talk about the violence and abuse they faced at the hands of several well-known men.
The rage and anger that followed made men uncomfortable and in spite of offering an unbiased ear to the victims, they decided to shut them and came up with ‘Not All Men’ claiming that it was unfair to them.
Sure, #NotAllMen, but who said that the movement was anti-men or intended to send all men to jail while women roamed around freely? It was purely about holding the perpetrators responsible for their actions, be they men or women.
And if that wasn’t enough, the entertainment industry is coming up with a comedy movie titled ‘#MenToo’.
With this Telugu film, the makers want to highlight that ‘being a man is not easy’, the teaser of which was released ahead of Valentine’s Day.
The teaser opens with a female voice saying in the background ‘main ladki hun, main kuch bhi kar sakti hun.’ Then comes a woman who calls men a shameless gender.
Moving on, there are several men who keep saying how women are dangerous to handle and how their casual complaints can get a man in trouble.
The movie continues to show women in a bad light until finally, the men find themselves in a ‘peaceful place’ with no women around.
Watch the trailer here:
Twitter was appalled to see that someone actually thought that the movement was funny and that making a film against women was necessary.
I can't believe they took the hash tag of a sensible cause turned it into a silly title of a movie victimising MEN https://t.co/qiPIwRT4v1

So pathetic. Labelling (working) women as monsters seems really pedestrian—verging on imbecility. This movie looks like the Gen-Z version of WhatsApp Uncle ‘wife jokes.’ Ridiculous. https://t.co/N2icquNPKs

are you kidding me? the #MeToo movement was an empowering opportunity for ALL victims of sexual abuse & harassment – including men – to come forward. but no, they won’t see it like that. for them, this is another opportunity to play the victim card & downplay women’s experiences. https://t.co/Lwokv4soUY

So far i thought #MeToo hashtag is gender neutral. It was not limited to only specific gender. It helped many ppl to open up on the harassments they faced which includes men.
If this is mockery to that tag means, what to say it's just bullshit. https://t.co/HnYZ5cFR3M

it must be soooo hard to be a man and make yourself the victim in every situation. vile https://t.co/fHJpqZvmxj

Wow so you make the whole mockery out of a movement which started with so much difficulty with a hope that women finally get justice! But ofcourse how can men digest that they have to make it about themselves they have to victimize themselves first! I am disgusted! https://t.co/NQ8ZFjYafS

#MeToo empowered victims to come forward with their harassment/abuse stories, regardless of their gender. To all the trash men out there, many victims are men as well. I don’t care about the plot, the title itself is so wrong. You somehow gotta make everything about yourself ah? https://t.co/QOX6mpmL75

desi men and their victim complex is insane to me.. i'm beyond disgusted, like just stop making telugu movies we've had more than enough https://t.co/prSJDJgHbj

One of the major reasons why feminists face hate is malicious disinformation spread by misogynists. #MeToo empowered victims to open up about abuse. Many of those victims included men as well. If the trailer is anything to go by, this will only widen the gap while not helping men https://t.co/8VAO1kfpfU

Laugh all you want about the other gender but coming up with a movie on such a sensitive movement that was not at all gender centric and making it all about men is just pathetic.
