NLSIU Prof’s Slut Shaming Comment On 1 Girl Made The Entire Class Wear Shorts In Protest

We come across so many incidents when men impose their rights on women and try to control their life and judge them by their clothing and profession. A similar incident took place at NLSIU, Bangalore.

NLSIU (National Law School of Indian University) sparked a controversy when one of its professors, V Nagaraj, allegedly slut shamed one the students for wearing shorts to class.

The professor was expecting a certain ‘decorum’ maintained in the class and that’s why he lashed out when one of the students wore shorts.

In fact, he even had the audacity to say, “You can come to class without a dress also. That is how your character is, I’m going to ignore you.

The incident had unfolded in front of the entire class and as a mark of protest, students were decked up in shorts the next day to demand an official apology.

However, the professor blatantly denied all such accusations and expected the college authorities to act wisely regarding this incident.

In response to that, students  came out with a “statement of condemnation” and the entire incident was narrated.

That was not it.

He also said, “We all know why parents marry their children off – so that they can have sex. Just because the parents marry off their children for this reason, it does not mean that the children have sex in front of their parents.”

However, NLSIU sexual harassment committee’s former in charge, Prof VS Elizabeth, offered support and made sense.

This is what she said:

The faculty should think before we make comments, particularly should not be casting aspersions on people’s character based on what they wear or don’t wear.  After all the amount of cloth we use to cover our bodies does not proportionately reflect our morality.  Many sexual abusers of children and women most certainly wear more clothes, does it mean that they are more moral than the rest of us?

Well, if this is true, this was really not expected of the professor. Universities are meant to mould our thinking and encourage its students to think rationally.

Let’s see what action is taken.
