Nimrat Kaur’s Story Proves That It Takes Years Of Hard Work To Be An ‘Overnight’ Success

Making a mark in the entertainment industry is not an easy task. It requires a lot of hard work, dedication, and sacrifices for an actor to be recognized in Bollywood. Recently, Nimrat Kaur, who established herself as a powerful face with her performance in ‘The Lunchbox’, opened up about her struggling days back in the day.

Coming from an Army background, Nimrat had zero knowledge about the film industry when she first came to Mumbai to pursue acting as a career. Revealing she had ‘multiple breakdowns’ when she moved to the city of dreams, the actor said there were days she would feel lost and would ‘cry for hours’ while speaking to her mother, reports HT.

She was quoted saying,

“There were multiple breakdowns. I had saved up a bit of money from a few odd jobs I did back in Delhi. So it saw me through the first six-seven months. What happened was that I got some photographs but you just don’t know where to go, what to do. Where do you even start?”

My darling Debzzz, I don’t know if you’re on Instagram, but here’s a massive shout out to you for pushing for nothing but the right shade of the best ‘jewel tone’ every single frame and for never settling for the wrong “doopuhhtuhh” fabric or length as you’d say!! 🤣😘 And my champion girl @frommytiptoes- from the moment I’d literally be ‘safety pinned’ to my clothes in the trailer till I’d wrap for the day, without your flawless final touches and priceless dark humour, Homeland-ing won’t ever have been the same. Princess of the dooputtuh land loves you so!! 🧕🏻🤗♥️ From personally sourcing fabrics at Nehru Place on a quick dash back to Delhi, to arriving at that “correct salwaar kameez vibe” with the tailors in Casablanca to wearing my Mama’s pearls (😸😬), the process of being in Tasneem Qureishi’s high heels and finery brought with it one of the greatest joys of being her. Immense love and gratitude to everyone who toiled endlessly over very little detail ♥️😘👏🏼#MajorMissingTeamTasneem #HomelandFinale #NKxTQ #TasneemQureishi @sho_homeland @frommytiptoes

Eventually, Nimrat appeared in a few music videos and advertisements before making her debut with ‘Peddlers’ in 2012. The ‘Airlift’ actor further revealed how things were a little scary for her back then. She mentioned how she personally went and gave her pictures to hundreds of agencies.

Last night I phoned Mamma around 10 to ask her a current life scenario urgent rated “over-night salting of karelas” question. Per usual she was available for that completely unimportant chat, mid-sleep. Nothing new, because she’s done so much more, in epic proportions, every single day, for the biggest part of her adult life since her early 20’s. She finds it perfectly natural and necessary to put absolutely everything aside (including spilling over boiling milk) and just be there. Available. She’s been my phone a friend, all 4 life lines, and of late the right answer for any/all lockdown life questions. Happy Mother’s Day to my forever “first responder” no matter what time of the day, month or life it’s been. I love you so my darling cuddly Mamma. And I miss you a lot. And I cannot wait to hug and kiss you lots and lots and lots ♥️⭐️ #Mama #Momma #Mamma #Mommy #Ma #Babli #FirstLove #EverythingEveryday #HappyMothersDay.

She added, “I figured that inko jaake photographs de dete hai aur dekhte hai ki kya hota hai (Let me give my pictures to them and see what happens).”

“I gave my pictures to hundreds of agencies and banners; I would go physically. I marked out areas, traveled by trains or buses and autos. I couldn’t afford cabs at that time. Everything was so expensive. Mobile phones, calls were so costly. So I used to go to a PCO and call mom, cry for hours and be so sad about things. It was pretty daunting and scary.”

She felt immense gratitude for the opportunity to have worked with the late actor Irrfan Khan. And even reminisced about the overnight success she received because of ‘The Lunchbox’. Nimrit’s story proves beyond doubt that for the world, what might seem like an ‘overnight’ success is actually years of dedication and hard work.
