Nawazuddin Siddiqui Believes ‘Bollywood Formula Films’ Work Without Talented Actors

Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui never seems to shy away from being vocal about both his personal and professional life views and struggles. For instance, he revealed how he grew up trying to lighten his skin with fairness creams due to an ‘inferiority complex’, or how he saw Bollywood actors whose ‘mouth starts watering’ on getting a role in Hollywood.

As per a report in HT, he spoke up about the nepotism debate saying that the films that are most affected by it do not appeal to him. “If you dream of one day becoming a hero or a heroine, in films with five dance numbers, then that is what you deserve. There’s a long queue of actors wanting to do those films,” he was quoted in an interview with Film Companion.

Nawazuddin added that he believes it is okay if an aspiring actor possesses a lot of money to invest in their ‘grooming’ like dance, etc. but it has absolutely nothing to do with acting. He explained that if someone comes with the knowledge of their craft, there is no point in pursuing such formula films, reports The Tribune.

He adds, “I am sorry to say, these Bollywood formula films do not require talented actors.” He continued, “There are thousands of filmmakers who work outside the formula. You should also know where your talent will be used.”

The critically-acclaimed actor also recalled a piece of advice given to him by director Anurag Kashyap. The ‘Gangs Of Wasseypur’ filmmaker told him that he should focus more on working with directors who could offer him good roles, as with an appearance like this, his talent would be wasted in mainstream films.

He concluded by saying that he is much more focussed and concerned about how many people watch his films rather than the box office numbers that are published. He even claimed that he could assess the reception of a film that is streaming based on the feedback he receives, even if the box office figures aren’t available.
