MP Elephants Working In Tiger Reserve Get A 7-Day Vacation, Enjoy Picnics To Rejuvenate

A vacation is a great way to give our minds a kind of reboot when we feel ourselves “burning out” at work. At least once a year, we need to sit back and just relax without having to worry about assignments. However, not just humans, working animals too need a break sometimes!

For example, elephants working at Madhya Pradesh’s Kanha Tiger Reserve are given a week-long vacation to rejuvenate themselves. According to NDTV, the “rejuvenation camps” for the elephants is a part of a 12-year long tradition at KTR.

The elephants working at the reserve help in patrolling, tiger tracking and averting man animal-conflict year-round. The rejuvenation camp is a way of saying ‘thank you’ to these elephants for their work.

This year, a total of 16 elephants enjoyed the vacation, which ended last week. As part of the tradition, they were fed their favourite foods like sugarcane, jackfruits, bananas, coconut and jaggery. They were also given massages and took dips in water bodies, reports Times Now.

“We literally pampered these elephants for a week as they are part of our family and they also enjoyed it completely,” said the KTR Field Director.

Besides all the fun activities, the elephants also undergo health check-ups.

This week-long vacation is also seen as a good bonding opportunity between the elephants and their caretakers.

Here’s an old video giving a sneak-peek into the rejuvenation camps:

It is heartwarming to see these animals being treated with so much love and affection. We hope many more places are inspired by this tradition!
