10 Most Awaited TV Shows of 2016 That Everyone’s Talking About

Do you have a penchant for popular culture and believe that TV shows form an integral part of it? If you do, It is still early in the year to know about the best TV shows to be aired on television this year. 2016 is full of surprises with not only your favorite shows coming up with their new season but also some very unusual but interesting migrations from movies to television. Let’s find out.

1. The untitled series by Woody Allen

We thought of starting big with the list and we couldn’t find anything bigger than Woody Allen gracing the world of television shows with his Midas touch. One of the most respected filmmakers in Hollywood, with movies like Match Point, Midnight in Paris and Annie Hall, Woody Allen is about make a series of six half-hour stories set in the 1960s.

The release date has not been confirmed yet, something the world is anxious. However, there is just one little thing to be concerned about. Woody is casting Miley Cyrus for one the roles in his episodes and we hope he gets the best out of her.

 

2. Shades of Blue

Here’s something to look forward to for all the J-Lo fans. The Hollywood diva, Jennifer Lopez is making her way to television as Detective Harlee Santos, a single mother and a cop New York. We have all seen how this diva looks in police pants in movies like the Money Train, and Shades of Blue looks promising with an interesting storyline and an impressive protagonist.

The bankable aspect of the series is the fact that it has been created by veteran Hollywood screenwriter, Adi Hasak, who has delivered fantastic action thrillers in the past such as From Paris With Love and 3 Days To Kill.

 

3. 11.22.63

If you’re a fan of James Franco, you would not want to miss out on this. However, if you’re not a fan of James Franco, you’d still not want to miss out on this because 11.22.32 is an adaptation of the book 11/22/63 of Stephen King, one of America’s most distinguished authors.

The 8 episode series is about a high school teacher who travels back in time to stop the assassination of John. F. Kennedy and faces threats from conspirators and also finds himself getting too attached to this new life in the past. Are we hooked already? Yes, that’s the kind of effect Stephen King has on people.

 

4. Get Down

Always been intrigued by the music scene in New York during the 1970s? This fresh series has stories from the streets of New York about the music scene with 13 episodes, each an hour long. A freshly built World Trade Center or the CBGB as the general venues of this show, it should be interesting to see how New York City, on the brink of bankruptcy gave birth to music like disco, pop and hip-hop.

While veterans like Jimmy Smits and Giancarlo Esposito will be among the main cast, the series will also have Jaden Smith as a repeating cast and we hope that does not tick you off. This one’s a Netflix home production and since they’re finally India, let’s check it out.

 

5. DC’s Legends of Tomorrow

This one’s going to be yet another boiler from DC Comics who have already built the hype around Legends of Tomorrow with their shows like Arrow and The Flash. The show has a very strong cast which almost makes sure that it is headed for success. This show is about a time traveler called Rip-Hunter who has to gather a team of villains and heroes to avoid an impending apocalypse.

Sounds like a fine script for a superhero movie and enough to get our nerd on and tune in for this one. If you have seen Arrow or the Flash, you would notice several characters you have already seen in the two shows, including Vandal Savage, the immortal spotted in the recent crossover of Flash and Arrow.

 

6. The Night Manager

Although Tom Hiddleston, Olivia Colman, and Hugh Laurie are enough to convince you, the series actually has a very intriguing plot. AMC and BBC are co-producing the series based on the novel by John Le Carre which goes by the same name.

It is going to very interesting to see how British soldier, Jonathan Pine, played by Hiddleston, infiltrates the core circle of illegal arms dealer Richard Onslow Roper, played by Hugh Laurie. The six-part series is supposed to release in February and it is getting harder and harder to wait to see Tom Hiddleston’s face off with Hugh Laurie.

 

7. Preacher

When Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen team up, they come up with stuff like the Pineapple Express or The Interview. However, this time, the two comic heads are joined by Sam Catlin, a man best known for his stories in the episodes of Breaking Bad.

Three have developed the highly unusual yet interesting plot Preacher where a small town preacher sets out on a mission to find God accompanied by criminal, trigger happy ex-girlfriend, a party obsessed Irish vampire and Tulip (Ruth Negga from Agent S.H.I.E.L.D). It is quite bizarre especially so with characters like Arseface, a name given for obvious reasons and looks like there’s going to be another major hit for AMC.

 

8. Vinyl

This is probably the biggest production in the list with star power that ensures success. Vinyl is a musical drama created by Terence Winter, most famous for The Wolf of Wall Street. The biggest surprise is the fact it is going to be directed, or, at least, the first episode, by Hollywood legend, Martin Scorsese.

That’s not all because the show has its executive producer in the ‘Rick and Roll’ legend, Mick Jagger. All set to release on February 14, Vinyl promises to be dramatic, sexy, humorous with the right amount of rock and roll to go with all that.

 

9. Westworld

You just have to watch a television show when Anthony Hopkins stars in it. We don’t get to see a lot of Oscar winners in television shows, do we? Although it is based on a 1973 film by the same name, the plot is extremely futuristic.

The story about an amusement park filled with robots who help people out with their fantasies, be it sling a gun at a robot or have sex with, gets really thrilling as the robots lose control and create havoc.

 

10. The X-Files Revival

It has been really long since they have aired a new episode of The X-Files on television and the wait is finally over. Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny will be reprising the iconic characters of Scully and Mulder.

The original show ended 13 years and since then, fans have been waiting to see Duchovny on the small screen as Mulder ever since. The hype around the television series is high and so are the expectations. The duo will be investigating supernatural cases together once the cast is to be joined by American comedy actor, Joel McHale also.

2016 is loaded with much-anticipated TV shows, all lined up to be released one after the other. For the ones that have already released, it’s still not too late to catch up.
