Mizoram’s Daily Wage Earner’s 15 YO Son Is Headed To Germany To Train With Bundesliga!

In a nation dominated by Cricket fanatics, Football, a major global sport is not too popular is most parts of the nation. Mostly restricted to the northeast, West Bengal and some southern states, the sport doesn’t make a lot of national headlines. However, the situation has somewhat improved in the last few years with professional leagues like the ‘Indian Super League’ and ‘i-League’ getting people interested in the game. And for the fans, there is some good news coming from the northeast.

Lalchungnunga Chhangte, a 15-year-old footballer hailing from Zotuitlang village in the northeastern state of Mizoram has been selected to train at Germany’s premier football league, ‘Bundesliga’ for a period of six years.

Lalchungnuga, along with 34 other young footballers from the northeast have been selected for the program.

 

Nicknamed ‘Mizo Messi’ by the locals, the teenager is one of the eight kids of a daily wage labourer. Despite his family ‘s poor financial situation, the young star has managed to get to the big league.

Lalchungnunga’s family supported him and made every possible effort to help him chase his dream of becoming a professional footballer.

 

Lalchungnunga’s father, Chhangte Laldinmawia is overwhelmed by the support he has received from his friends, Mizoram football association and Tata Trusts’ ‘U Dream Football’ initiative.

While Laldinmawia wants his son to play in the best leagues in Europe, his ultimate wish is for his son to make the nation proud with his football skills.

Let’s hope Lalchungnunga’s skills improve manifolds in Germany and India gets its very own Messi.
