Swathi Reddy hails from Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur and is 23 years old. She is a final year medical student at GITAM medical college and has been gaining immense popularity on social media due to a noble deed she committed recently.
According to DNA, Swathi Reddy helped a 28-year-old woman named Srikakulam deliver a baby while travelling on the Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam Duronto Express. Both the mother and the daughter are recovering well.
The mother of the child, Srikakulam and her husband were travelling from Vijayawada to Visakhapatnam via train on an AC bogie when she got into labour. Swathi was travelling on the same train and she was contacted by Srikakulam’s husband. This was the first child delivery that Swathi carried out on her own.
“Because this was my first delivery that I carried out on my own, I was quite anxious and also terrified. I had previously helped lecturers in the hospital. I was initially concerned and terrified since the placenta had been in there for 45 minutes. When the baby was delivered, I was relieved,” she said.
The baby was born at 5.35 AM with the help of two other women in the compartment and on-duty cops. As a gesture of their gratefulness towards the doctor, the parents of the newborn named their child after Swathi.
Swathi’s university took to Twitter to laud her courage and presence of mind. Have a look:
