UP Man Tries To Burn Down A Petrol Pump Employee After Being Denied Petrol

Most of us might have seen signboards at petrol pumps that state that no petrol will be given in plastic containers. Even the Petroleum Rules, 1976 state that containers in which petrol can be provided ‘shall be constructed of tinned, galvanised or externally rustproofed sheet iron or steel’. It further states the limited quantity of petrol that can be given to any person. As reported by TOI, the Telangana Petroleum Products (Licensing and Regulations of Supplies) Order 1980 also bans selling or transporting loose petroleum products without an invoice.

Despite several petrol pumps denying to give petrol in plastic containers, several people still tend to ask for it. But when this man from Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad district was denied fuel, he allegedly tried attempting to burn the petrol pump employee, reported TOI.

The gruesome incident happened yesterday in the Civil Lines Police Station area of Moradabad. Business Standards quotes Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Anand as saying, “After the employee of the pump refused to give petrol in a bottle that he was carrying with him, the man got angry. He bought the fuel from a different petrol pump and tried to burn down the employee using that.”

The man was then tackled by the other employees of the petrol pump. The entire incident was captured on the pump’s CCTV camera. The man was however arrested by the cops and a case of ‘attempt to murder’ has been filed against him.

Although carrying loose petrol is risky, however, it also often happens that we need some amount of fuel to fill into the empty tanks of our vehicles. Well, in such cases, the vehicle owner can bring a container to the petrol pump but they should bring the right type of container mentioned in the Petroleum Act.

Very recently, the brutal rape and murder of a Hyderabad vet had outraged the country. The four accused used petrol to burn her to death that they carried in a plastic water bottle. Earlier, a female Tehsildar from Telangana was burnt alive in her office using petrol. The accused was also carrying loose petrol in a plastic bottle.

In light of all these incidents, we honestly believe the government should come up with stricter regulations to avert such kind of crime in the country.
