After a 27-year-old veterinary doctor was sexually assaulted, killed and set ablaze in Telangana, Cyberabad Police detained a truck driver, his assistant and two others in connection with the horrific crime. When the case was discussed in the Rajya Sabha, the lynching of perpetrators was put forth as a possible solution.
The Hindu now reports that all 4 men accused of the crime (lorry driver Mohammad Arif, Jollu Naveen, Jollu Shiva and Chintakunta Chennakeshavulu) have been killed after an exchange of fire with the cops near Chatanpally underpass.

Hindustan Times quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police in Shamshabad N Prakash Reddy saying,
“Cyberabad Police had brought the accused persons to the crime spot for re-construction of the sequence of events. The accused snatched weapons and fired on police. In self-defense, the police fired back, in which the accused were killed.”

News18 quoted the veterinary doctor’s father saying,
“It has been 10 days to the day my daughter died. I express my gratitude towards the police & govt for this. My daughter’s soul must be at peace now. I am not going to get back my daughter but this will definitely send a strong message. This will instill fear and criminals will not dare to do what my daughter had to go through.”

The Indian Express quoted Nirbhaya’s mother saying,
“I am extremely happy with this punishment. Police have done a great job and I demand that no action should be taken against the police personnel. I have been running from pillar to post for the last 7 years to get justice in the Nirbhaya case. I appeal to the justice system of this country and the government, that my daughter’s culprits must be hanged to death, at the earliest.”
The accused had been arrested on November 29 and sent to seven-day police custody by the Shadnagar court on November 30.
