From showing off their dance moves on streets to distributing roses to people who wear a helmet, traffic police around the country have time and again come with innovative ways to tackle traffic. Bengaluru police impressed the citizens when a couple of months back they installed mannequins dressed as traffic cops around the city.
It seems like, the new venture has turned out to be successful in minimizing traffic violations in the city. Hence, the city police will soon deploy mannequins dressed as women cops at places frequently visited by women, reports News 18.
“We will selectively deploy female mannequins dressed as policewomen at places where they can be used,” Bengaluru Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao said. The mannequins won’t be permanently fixed on a specific spot but be rotationally shifted to various places in the city.
“I have planted the idea. The Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) across the city. will take care of the rest,” said the commissioner.
Explaining the motive behind the new concept, the officer said people, in general, obey laws only when they see a policeman, necessitating the mode of hide-and-seek mannequin deployment.
To begin with, 50 mannequins costing between Rs 4,000 and Rs 6,000 each are to be installed in the city, reports TOI. In fact, a model of the female cop mannequin has already been presented before the commissioner at his office.
“Usually, we deploy women home guards at places like schools, colleges, shopping malls, garments, hotels and cinema halls. Now, we will use mannequins here,” Rao said. “Every day, the mannequins will be replaced by real police personnel so that people don’t ignore them,” he added.
