21-Year-Old Student, Arya Rajendran, From Kerala Becomes India’s Youngest Ever Mayor

“Almost everything that is great has been done by youth.”

This saying by Former UK Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli holds true today as we see powerful young voices rising in different parts of the world.

One of such young voices belongs to 21-year-old Arya Rajendran who is all set to become Kerala’s, and India’s, youngest ever mayor, reports Business Today.

According to The New Indian Express, the second-year B.Sc student is to become the next mayor of Thiruvananthapuram. Arya studies at All Saints College, is the State President of Bala Sangham, and the state office-bearer of SFI – the student wing of CPM.

She won from Mudavanmugal ward and defeated the UDF candidate Sreekala by 2872 votes.

Born into a politically-conscious family, Arya says that she has had a “natural flair” for politics. She considers her father to be her “guru” as he taught her a great deal on the subject, according to another report by TNIE.

Her father works as an electrician and her mother is a LIC agent.

Arya’s main area of interest is to make her city free from the waste menace and to make it a safer space for women. Despite having tremendous responsibility now owing to her new position, Arya wants to continue her studies on the side too.
