John Oliver Responds To Arnab Goswami Calling Him An “Ignoramus Of Global Proportions”

On February 23, ‘Last Week Tonight’ host John Oliver dedicated an entire episode on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to The Hindu, the story addressed the origins of RSS, the Gujarat riots of 2002, demonetization as well as anti-CAA protests outlining how PM Modi is a “controversial figure” in India.

Consequently, two things happened. NDTV reports that streaming service Hotstar (owned by Disney) self-censored the episode even as it was available on the show’s YouTube channel and journalist Arnab Goswami called him out for being an “ignoramus of global proportions” and “not smart enough to be a satirist”.

According to HuffPost, the Emmy Award-winning host responded in yesterday’s piece by saying, “I’ll give you ignoramus. I’ll even give you a third-rate TV host. My researchers assure me that’s an actual compliment  — but I embarrass myself? Who the fuck do you think you’re talking to?!”
