The film fraternity lost two legends in a matter of two days – Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor. The former had fought a long battle with neuroendocrine tumour and was admitted to the hospital for a colon infection where he breathed his last yesterday.
According to Business Today, his wife Sutapa Sikder and sons Babil and Ayan performed his final rites in Mumbai.
They issued a statement saying,
“Irrfan was buried at the Versova Kabristan in Mumbai at 3 pm this afternoon soon after the news of his passing away was announced. In presence were his family, close relatives and friends. Everyone paid their final respects and mourned the loss of his passing away. We pray for his peace and we hope he’s in a better place today. He was strong in his fight, and we all have to be strong too in this loss.”
19-year-old Babil also shared a thank you note on Instagram for all the condolences messages he received.
NDTV reports that filmmakers Vishal Bhardwaj, Tigmanshu Dhulia and Abhinay Deo visited the family at the hospital. On social media, heartbreaking remembrances poured in from Bollywood as well as Hollywood. Natalie Portman and Angelina Jolie also paid their respects to the actor.
According to Hindustan Times, DD announced that the show ‘Shrikant’ directed by Pravin Nischol will be aired again as a tribute to the versatile actor at 3.30 pm every day.
