Karnataka Man Sees Faulty Train Track, Runs 3 Kms To Alert Officials Despite Injured Leg

On 19th October, 2018, India was shaken by a chilling tragedy that took place in Amritsar, where a crowd of people watching Dussehra celebrations was mowed down by a train. And while the people of Amritsar and the rest of India are recovering from it, another such incident might’ve taken place if it was wasn’t for Karnataka daily-wager, Krishna Poojary.

According to Times of India, Krishna Poojary is a daily-wager who was diagnosed with an ailment due to which he lost strength in his right leg. So, he was advised to go on morning walks as a remedy. And that’s when he came across a faulty track. He said,

“I usually take a stroll for around 2 km. I was walking near the track around 6.45 AM when I happened to see the crack. Soon a train passed by. I could only think of rushing to the officials.”

Now, keep in mind, Poojary’s condition was so bad that medicines weren’t working on him. Additionally, as he works at a fast food stall, he isn’t able to afford high-quality medication. And yet he ran to alert the railway officials because he knew how many lives were at stake.

After a few frantic minutes of contemplation, Poojary ran for 3 kms straight to find the nearest railway officials and let them know about the crack in the track. And so he did. Poojary said,

“I have severe pain in the leg. But I am glad I could be Of Help to people.”

As soon as the railway officials received Poojary’s alert, they ordered two trains to be halted. One of them was at Indrali railway station, 7 kms away from the cracked spot. And another was at Padubidri station, which was 16 kms away. Following that, Poojary took the engineers to the spot to fix it and get the trains running again.

Poojary’s act of bravery is exemplary and is a reminder of other such heroes who’ve acted like this to save lives. However, it’s also a reminder of the fact that what a lackluster job our Indian railways is doing. Let’s hope they stay indebted to Poojary and repay him by providing more-than-adequate medication for his legs, because if it wasn’t for him, the world would’ve woken up to another nightmare.
