Unlike the West where there is a culture of kids leaving the house at the age of 18 and looking after themselves without the help of their parents, Indian parents, especially middle-class parents, try to look after their kids for as long as they can, almost never abandoning their needs. Their sense of parental duty is unprecedented and they would go out of their way to make the lives of their kids easier. From giving them a bigger bedroom to installing an AC in their room so they could study comfortably, Indian parents have a habit of placing the needs of their kids over everything else.
Here’s an example. IFS officer Anupam Sharma took to X to share how in 2014, his parents installed an AC inside his bedroom so he could prepare for competitive exams comfortably and with more focus during the summers. This was the only AC that his parents had purchased and they chose to install it in his bedroom instead of theirs.
This is the only AC my parents had ever purchased, ~10 years back in 2014.
It was installed in my room, so that I can prepare for competitive exams with greater comfort & focus in summers🌞.
Just a glimpse of efforts put in by middle-class parents for their children's future. pic.twitter.com/ehrszbiDKK

Responding to his post, several others shared how their parents woke up early, prepared food for them, and did other things to make their lives easier while they concentrated entirely on their studies. There were many whose parents similarly installed air conditioners in their bedrooms and sacrificed their own comfort.
Have a look at some of the responses here:
My mom used to get up at 3:00am to prepare my breakfast/lunch…just great..

Anupam ji
We still give our graduate studying son Flight+ Taxi Combo since he is a bit far away
It is engrained in the DNA of Indian parents whether they are Hindu, Muslim or any other community it does not matter..
That feeling for children’s comfort just doesn’t go away.

I have seen my mom’s efforts. She would wake up at 430 am to make lunch for my brother, he had to leave by 6.
food for all of us and she had to be in school by 8 i think, 1 hr + bus ride…Most Mom’s definitely put in a lot of efforts.

We purchased one for my daughter for her 12 exams in Chennai to help her study better. Today she is in the Indian Foreign service. For middle class Indians education is the only asset and we do our very best to offer that to our children

My parents also only installed AC in mine and my sister’s rooms, while we were students. They used a fan😓 The unwavering love and compassion of parents is beyond belief. Bless them💞
