IIT Bombay Receives A Donation Of ₹160 Crore But The Donor Wishes To Be Anonymous

In June 2023, Infosys co-founder and non-executive chairman Nandan Nilekani donated a whopping Rs 315 crore to IIT Bombay on the occasion of being associated with the prestigious institute for 50 years.

And now in another humongous donation made to IIT Bombay, an anonymous donor has donated Rs 160 crore to the institute for the establishment of a Green Energy and Sustainability Research Hub, reported Moneycontrol.

“This is a rare occurrence in Indian academia that a philanthropist wishes to stay anonymous,” said Professor Subhasis Chaudhuri, the Director of IIT Bombay.

The donation will be used in the creation of a “state-of-the-art” academic building on the IIT Bombay campus in suburban Powai in Mumbai and it will be dedicated to “tackling climate challenges through cutting-edge research, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations, and nurturing entrepreneurial endeavours”, Prof Chaudhuri further revealed.

It is truly surprising that the donor wishes to be anonymous, don’t you think?
