They say, “Be the change you want to be.

There are many IAS officers who tread on this path and do their work with utmost honesty and dedication. And one of them is this Jalore IAS officer.

A young Jalore IAS officer, Jitendra Kumar Soni, kick started a scheme which is aimed at providing free shoes to underprivileged kids.

The scheme is called “Charan Paduka Yojana” and it aims to provide shoes to 25,000 underprivileged kids.

So here’s what happened:

1. During mid December last year, Jitendra Kumar visited a school where he saw 3 students coming to the school barefoot in the shivering cold.

2. This incident moved him. He asked the teachers about these children and came to know that their parents couldn’t afford shoes and books for them.

3. He immediately went to the market and  bought shoes for them.

And this small incident catalyzed a way to launch a scheme – Charan Paduka Yojana. For this, the officer conducted a survey of 274 gram panchayats and 3 nagar palikas in his district.

The survey revealed around 10 kids were coming barefoot in each of the 2500 schools. The non branded shoes cost around Rs 200 and Jitendra was sure people would help him with their little donations. And he’s elated that people are swarming to his office every day with their small donations.

The best part is that these children will get the shoes before Republic Day.

“From the first week of January, we launched the scheme with the help of donors. I have asked authorities to ensure that all these 25,000 kids get a pair of shoes on or before Republic Day,” he said.

Jitendra Kumar Soni hails from Dhanasar village near Rawatsar in Hanumangarh and his father is a watchmaker.
This is such an incredible act by Jitendra Kumar Soni.

Let’s pay respect to this amazing officer. Hail his spirit! 🙂
