A Hyderabad College Came Out With The Most Ridiculous Bus Pass Rule Ever…

Indian colleges/universities are known for their random acts of quirkiness and stupidity. Like recently St. Stephens, DU was in the news for their extraordinary expectations and setting their cut-off at a whopping 99%.

And that’s okay. They are just encouraging  the ‘Sharma Ji Ke Bete Ko Dekho’  complex in all students and merely making them more competitive in this already competitive world. Happy parents & kids who do their MBA abroad in finance and come back richer with swankier cars – the Indian Dream come true. Aur kya chahiye?

But moving on. These two colleges in India have taken moral policing to a ridiculously new level with their ‘rules’.

Here is Gitam University from Visakhapatnam & Hyderabad. Nothing new here, except:

That’s right. This bus pass from the college is saying it loud and clear ‘NO BOYS & GIRLS SHOULD SIT TOGETHER’.

And as Reddit user zkhil mentioned here, Sathyabama University in Chennai has taken it one notch up and declared this:

Moreover, it is surprising to note that Jeppiar, the founder and chancellor of Sathyabama feels the same way, where he declared the college management as the ‘mother’ and ‘father’ of the students and declared them ‘brothers’ and ‘sisters’.

It is not just saddening, but also disappointing to see that in a country where we have to deal with moral policing every day, and where we are struggling to reduce the gender gap, colleges like these are actually encouraging it. Nobody is asking for co-ed hostels or common toilets for all, but making male and female students sit separately or punishing them just because they were found talking is just way beyond any logical explanations.

We all know if there is one thing in engineering that is more Engineering Graphics, it is making a girlfriend/boyfriend in those 4 years, and when rules like these pop up you can only think of one thing to say:
