This Mahatma Gandhi Statue Has Eerie Red Laser Eyes Thanks To Vandals In San Francisco

Miscreants vandalizing public property, ancient monuments and city statues is not new. Some do it as a sign of protest while others, like the Hampi vandals who destroyed pillars at the Vishnu Temple complex, do it for the thrill. No matter what the reasoning is though, it is still a crime apart from being hugely disrespectful.

According to Navbharat Times, a bronze sculpture of Mahatma Gandhi located in the San Francisco Ferry Building was also vandalized recently.

The photos of the incident first surfaced on a Reddit thread. They show an unidentified man inserting battery-operated red LEDs to the eyes so as to make them glow in the dark. Previously, the San Francisco Arts Commission has had to deal with many instances of thieves stealing the spectacles from the statue. But this incident is said to be a first.

The miscreant’s handiwork takes full effect at night when the statue’s eyes take on an eerie red glow.

While some netizens are calling out the incident for being vandalism in the name of comedy, others are looking at the amusing side and calling them laser eyes.
