When I read these comments on the internet that reek of hatred and are constructed on the bricks of dogmatic judgements, I wonder, who are these people? I have met so many people in my life and yet I can’t recognize a single person who will feel/say/believe in something like that.
Most people out there are nice people, aren’t they? I believe they are, we just don’t get to hear about them as much. So here’s a story of one such nice person for you.
Meet Mr. Iqbal Latif, owner of 26 chains of Dunkin Donuts in Pakistan. These stores are spread across Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar.
Recently in a move to show peace during the ongoing tensions he offered free food and a donut to all Indians in Pakistan who are on a short term visa. He put out a sign saying the same along with a page from Gandhi ji’s book which reminded people to love thy neighbours.
He had expected some negative reaction from the people there, but surprisingly there was none. Neither the agencies nor the government had any problem with it and to top it all, he got a call from many of his friends who are in the army appreciating his amiable move.
Till now they have served as many as 2,432 people in Peshawar, Islamabad and Lahore. His sales are going up and on the first day itself they were able to feed 17 Indians in a store in Islamabad. People absolutely loved his efforts.
Are the haters listening? Few hate mongers cannot burn humanity down to ashes. Till the time we remember the morals that our elders taught us, no propaganda can turn our hearts into ruins and social media into war zones.
More power to you Iqbal for making a brave move and setting an exemplary example!
