Most generations have grown up with a preconceived set of rules for men and women. For example, women are supposed to cook and men are supposed to eat. Men should go to work while women should look after the children, and so on and so forth. But thankfully, we have slowly began to ask and shake things up while at it.
That’s why games like cricket and football, which were generally played by men, were taken over by women. The ratio of working class men versus women has begun to equalise in certain parts of our country. However, when it comes to basic biological gender differences, role reversals are a little difficult, right? Well, not according to one father.
According to WBAY, Maxamillian and April Neubauer were pregnant. However, due to a certain medical condition, the doctors had to do an emergency C-section on her, which led to some complications. April said,
“I was unable to have kids at all. I have PCOS (a hormonal disorder that causes infrequent menstrual periods), so I didn’t know I was pregnant until 8 weeks in.”
When April was brought in, they had to break her water. And since she was unable to give birth naturally due to her seizures, the doctors decided to conduct an emergency C-section. So, although Rosalia (Max and April’s daughter) was born safely, April had to be taken into the ICU for further care.
This turn of events meant that there was no one to provide skin-to-skin breastfeeding for April. However, Doctor Cybil Martin-Dennehy wasn’t going to give up so easy and offered Max to step in. And he said yes!
“I was like, I was shirtless, so I will try everything about once, and everyone got pretty excited and went for it. I think that’s what did it, Mom tattoo with the baby.”
Cybil said that she has requested many fathers to do this because skin-to-skin breastfeeding has a lot of benefits for the baby. But Max was the first one to don the fake nipple shield, a feeding tube, a syringe, some formula and give April her first meal.
Everyone, from the mother, grandmother to the doctors were over the moon with Max’s heartwarming act. Max even took to Facebook to address all the fathers to do the same when the time comes.
“Due to complications during Aprils emergency c-section. This super rad nurse made a epically killer offer, and I was fortunate enough to slap on a suction cup fake nipple. Being the first to breast feed da baby!!!! ‘I did it for the moms’ Eat your heart out!!”
We always keep talking about breaking conventions, but we rarely get the chance to do so. However, when the opportune moment arrives, we should take Max’s example and act on it. I’ve no doubt that April will grow up with no preconceived notions because of such amazing parents and I wish them a happy and healthy future.
