Doug Emhoff Leaves Job As Lawyer To Support Wife Kamala Harris As 2nd Gentleman

For generations, women have had to take a step back in their lives in order to fit into several roles. How many times have we come across women who left their jobs to take care of the family or left their homes because the husband had a transfer? Too many times. It has been said that behind every successful man is a woman, but a woman is still ‘behind’. But today, women are at the forefront and it is time for men to be equally supportive.

And what a tremendous example Kamala Harris’ husband Doug Emhoff has set in regards to this! The man has and continues to break age-old gender stereotypes because it’s Harris’ time to shine!

According to USA Today, 56-year-old Doug Emhoff worked as an entertainment lawyer. However, his new standing as the Second Gentleman creates a conflict of interest. Which is why, he decided to quit his job so he could fully support his wife, Kamala Harris.

Now, this is particularly laud-worthy because American men who work in the corporate sector supposedly prioritise their job over everything else.

For such a massive step, Emhoff has been praised by many.

“This gives us a model, and it is a fabulous model. Mr. Harris is totally comfortable stepping back so his wife can show her brilliance, grace, grit and power because he wants her to succeed,” said Professor Ella L.J. Bell Smith, Dartmouth College.

“His position is going to be extremely visible and his behaviour is going to send a message,” said Michael Useem, University of Pennsylvania.

President Joe Biden himself said to him, “Doug, you’re going to have to learn what it means to be a barrier-breaker yourself.”

This comes at a time when due to the pandemic, way more women lost their jobs in comparison to men in America. According to reports, 1,56,000 women exited the labour in USA force in December while men gained 16,000 jobs.

We hope Doug Emhoff inspires several other men to be as supportive of their wives as him!
