I am incredibly lucky to have a labrador retriever in my life. While it is widely believed that dogs protect you from burglary, a domesticated labrador is probably the last dog that will prevent a crime. Every other day, my family and I joke about how our pet dog would welcome the burglar into our house and demand belly rubs rather than scare him away. Don’t believe me? Here’s an example:
Recently, the San Diego Police Department shared an adorable burglary video. In the video, we see how a man enters a garage and tries to take away a bicycle. However, a golden retriever enters the garage via the back door and instead of raising an alarm, the tail-wagging fluffball walks to the burglar and demands sloppy kisses and belly rubs.
The burglar keeps the cycle aside and goes on to pet the dog and says things like “I love you so much” and “You’re so cool”. This happens for a couple of minutes while the owner of the pet dog is probably away. Later, the burglar leaves with the bike as the dog watches him. The cycle, on the other hand, was no ordinary two-wheeler. It cost $1,300 that’s approximately Rs 1.07 lakh.
“On July 15, 2023, at approximately 10:40 pm, an unknown white male suspect entered a garage in the Pacific Beach neighborhood. The individual made off with a 2019 black Electra 3-speed bicycle valued at approximately $1,300,” the San Diego Police Department wrote on social media and posted a video of the incident.

Yeah, the golden is cute, but Security might not be in his skill set.

He did get the guy on camera for awhile, so I’m thinking job well done. Look at the tape and catch the guy.

Oh that pupper did his job well…was his back up that failed 🤣🤣🤣

It’s called de-escalation and is a valid tactic while waiting for backup to arrive.

This is the most amazing capture of pure dog energy on display for the world to see. Dogs can change the world, one person at a time!!! Did you know Tibetian monks believe that our dogs contain the embodied souls of our ancestors?!? I believe it 💯

He’s a guard dog that gets you surveillance tape to catch the guy, a honey trap if you will. Not a guard dog who bites the intruder and invites an insurance claim. Get it?
GOOD DOG

I feel like he did his job. It was to guard the garage. He didn’t leave the garage He guarded it. He can’t help it if people steal from it. 🤷🤷🤷😆🐶

A golden retriever is not meant for security, I see 🥺

The delayed chase at the end is so perfect. “Shoot I’m not suppose to let him get away”
Poor pup. Can’t process a thought with all that adrenaline

he’s still getting a medal of honor for being a great distraction and almost making the thief change his mind

He’s a Golden RETRIEVER not a Golden StopThiever. Now he shall go on an epic quest to retrieve the bike.
