Delhi CM To Waive Water Bills For 13 Lakh Delhiites With Water Meters Installed

Ahead of Delhi assembly elections, looks like, the AAP government is on a spree showering benefits on the masses. After promising free metro and DTRC rides for women and cutting prices of electricity, the AAP government has recently proposed the idea of waiving water duties.

It is now water tariffs and people who have functional water meters at home will reap the benefits of the scheme. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal announced the good news on Tuesday at a press conference, reports India Today.

“A total of 13 lakh people are expected to benefit out of this scheme while the government will also earn Rs 600 crore with streamlined metered water connections”, he said.

The scheme will open in November 2019 and the water bills will be waived till March in the first round of the proposal. “Over 10.5 lakh people who come under the E, F, G and H categories of water consumers will get a 100 percent waiver while those in the A and B category will get a 25 percent waiver. C category consumers will 50 percent waiver of their water arrears”, Kejriwal said.

#uttarakhandi #garhwali #delhi

“I will write letters to all water consumers in Delhi,” said Arvind Kejriwal during the arrear waiver announcement. The only condition is that in order to take benefits of the scheme, people need to install working water meters at their homes.

“This is an open invitation to the people of Delhi to join the mainstream and install water meters. This will help us save Rs 600 crore and strengthen the economy,” he added.

While it seems like that’s good news for Delhites, we wonder if such ‘progressive’ steps prove sustainable and beneficial long term for capital residents.
