Single Parents’ Kids Will No Longer Be Denied Admission In Delhi Schools, Twitter Lauds Move

In our society, single parents are often stigmatized and are considered unfit to raise children. In the past, we have seen instances of schools denying admission to kids of single parents. However, Delhi has decided to change things for the better.

According to a report by The Indian Express, schools in Delhi are no longer allowed to deny admission to kids with single parents. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia announced, “No school in Delhi shall deny admission to a child on the grounds that the child is declaring the name of his/her single parent only.”

A circular which has been issued by the Director of Education reads, “All the Heads of schools of all managements under DoE are hereby directed to not deny admission to the candidates who have filled details of even one of the parents in the application form while taking admission.”

People online lauded this move. Many shared their own experience of being denied opportunities/rights because of having a single parent.

This is a progressive and inclusive decision indeed. Kudos to the Delhi government!
