Delhi Man Quits Job On The First Day Because Office Was Too Far From Home, Regrets Later

There have been a lot of people who landed jobs that were far away from their homes and as a result, had to travel quite a bit to reach the office. Especially if it is a person’s first-ever job, they do not have the luxury to be picky and try to work things out. They travel 1-2 hours back and forth and spend very less time at home. This is how life looks like for many people who are just starting out or have financial obligations.

However, a man in Delhi quit his job after the first day because the commute to his office from his home was too long. He claims that he could spend only 3 hours a day at home and travelling back and forth from the office would cost him Rs 5,000 a month. He added that travelling would take him “1.45 hours in the morning and 2-2.5 in the evening”.

“Got a job in a decent company with a decent pay. They wanted people and hired me instantly after some rounds of interview. I got excited as it was my first job but realised it would be too much to travel. I live in northwest part of Delhi (Pink line) and the job was based in ‘Moulsari Avenue’. I wanted the on-site exposure since I’m hella introvert. Upon some calculations I realised I’ll only be at home for 3 hours (considering the office work + commute). Also it would cost around 5k monthy ka for travelling. I can’t relocate (sic),” he wrote.

He asked people online if he was wrong to take such an impulsive decision. Here’s a look at his post on Reddit:

Several people online responded to his post by sharing how they too travel long hours back and forth from the office and it is normal for a lot of professionals. While some agreed that he made an impulsive decision and he should have stuck it out, others suggested renting an apartment near his workplace.

After reading the responses to his story, the guy realized that he indeed made a mistake by quitting so quickly.

“I did wrong. I didn’t know every other person travels this much. I had no one to talk to so I took an impulsive decision. I’ll do better and the next time I will grab any other opportunity I’ll get,” he wrote.
