Love him or hate him, you know the name of Cristiano Ronaldo. In his long-lasting career, the Portugese maestro has gone from strength to strength and is leading his national team one more time at football’s biggest stage. And in their first match in the tournament, Ronaldo has made it known that he is here to stay.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s performance in the club matches have been top notch and he has earned a lot of accolades while playing for Manchester United and Real Madrid. But, he has long been criticised for not giving the same kind of effort for his national team. However, after seeing what he did to Spain on his own, I’m sure Ronaldo has muffled those voices.
Portugal squared up against Spain in a match that can only be described as a thriller, with Cristiano Ronaldo taking the spotlight with a scintillating hat-trick.
Cristiano Ronaldo made his presence known in the first four minutes with a penalty. After that it was an exciting to-and-fro between Diego Costa and Ronaldo, thereby making the score 2-2. And when Nacho burnt the pitch with a forceful strike, things were looking in favour of Spain.
However, at the 88th minute, Portugal got a free-kick and Ronaldo took his famous stance. As David De Gea set the wall, Ronaldo calmed his nerves. And when the referee blew the whistle, Ronaldo charged forward and sent the ball swerving into the net to bring the match to an exciting draw. It was like art in motion.
You have to see the goal to believe it:

Cristiano Ronaldo recently stunned the world with a brilliant bicycle kick and took Real Madrid to UEFA glory. And since he has started the World Cup in such brilliant fashion, I hope he’ll repeat the same for his national team as well.
