After 63 Years Of Marriage, This Couple Died Holding Hands On The Hospital Bed

When Dolores and Trent Winstead tied the knot on January 17, 1953, and pledged to stay together till death parted them, they wouldn’t have thought that death would not be able to keep them apart for much long.

Dolores (83) and Trent Winstead (88), a couple from Tennessee, USA died just hours apart while holding hands in a hospital. They were married for nearly 63 years and spent their last few days in the same hospital room in adjacent beds.

Trent was admitted into the Nashville Hospital due to kidney failure and was moved to the ICU when his heart started getting weak due to dialysis. A then healthy Dolores stood by her husband’s side holding his hand.

Watching her husband suffering, the old lady started feeling uneasy herself. She suffered a severe brain aneurysm and was connected to a ventilator as her condition worsened.

Dolores stopped breathing on December 9. Her son, Eddie leant over to tell his father that his wife has died. Trent then blew a kiss to bid adieu to his wife and died hours later himself. Their daughter Sheryl said,

“Because she was gone, he just could not handle it. We just watched him die. I hadn’t thought about it this way at the time. (He) literally, he died of a broken heart. Never in a million years did I think I was going to come out of the hospital with neither one.”

Trent and Dolores had two children, three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. They met in the 50s and sent love letters to each other when Trent went to serve in the Korean war.
