Collector Drives His Chauffeur To Work On His Last Day As A Farewell Gift For His Service

Civil servants in India have become infamous for their tendency to shamelessly abuse the immense power and handsome perks that they receive from the government. However, there are a few gems within this collective who are dutiful and set a bright example for the future.

G Sreekanth, the collector of Akola in Maharashtra, decided to switch places with his chauffeur, Digambar Thak, and drive him to work as a farewell gift on the chauffeur’s last day.

Digambar climbed into the back of the car, wearing his crisp, white chauffeur uniform, while the collector himself sat in the driver seat. It was truly one of the most memorable gifts one could have asked for.

Digambar Thak retired at the age of 58, after having dutifully driven 18 collectors to their workplace everyday for 35 years.

“For close to 35 years, he’s helped the state with his service, ensuring that collectors get to their workplace safely, day after day. I wanted to make this a day to remember for him and also to say thank you for what he’s done.”

This beautiful gesture will certainly remain a cherished memory in Digambar’s heart as he hangs up his uniform and begins a new stage in his life.

Mr Sreekanth’s gesture has certainly set a beautiful example for all administrative service officers to take inspiration from. Kudos, Mr Sreekanth!
