Chhattisgarh Nurse Braves Crocodile-Infested Waters To Provide Healthcare To Villagers Everyday

We all just love cribbing and complaining about our jobs, don’t we? Especially the commute to work. Oh the hell we go through when we have to navigate traffic jams or get squashed in the local trains. Even air-conditioned metro commuters have their own set of complaints you’ll not hear the end to. And then there’s this Sunita Thakur from Chhattisgarh who’ll make all your problems seem like a walk in the park.

Sunita Thakur is an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) who crosses crocodile infested waters to attend to villagers in the remote areas of Dantewada, Chhattisgarh. Every. Single. Day.

The even more astonishing part is that she has been doing this for the past seven years!

Sunita uses a makeshift boat to ferry herself across the crocodile infested waters of the Indravati river to provide services to pregnant mothers and newborn babies. But that’s not the only daunting part of her ‘work commute’.

Once she has crossed the river, there’s a long walk ahead of her, fraught with equally, if not less, dangerous threats.

What makes her efforts even more commendable is the fact that this area has also seen a lot of Naxalite activities. And despite all of these natural and man-made dangers, Sunita is determined to keep going.

Doesn’t it make you wonder, does nothing scare her? Has she never thought of giving up?

According to Amar Ujala, On countless occasions in these last seven years, her boat has been attacked by crocodiles a number of times. Sunita, just like any other person in her position would, has also thought about quitting her job.

But this particular area in Chhattisgarh is severely deprived of even basic healthcare facilities and Sunita really cares for all the health and well-being of all these villagers. Which is why she has and will be continuing to do her good work.

Kudos to you, Sunita Thakur! Those dangers are nothing before your fierce dedication to help others!
