Apart from Uruguay and a few states in various parts of the world, weed is still illegal. That’s why for stoners, buying marijuana continues to be a shady process where they’ve to go to that particular paan ka dukaan, wait for the coast to be clear and then make the hit. However, if you’re Canadian, or visiting there with your NRI cousins, you have nothing to worry about if you want to get high.
According to News18, Canada has become the second country after Uruguay to legalise possession and use of recreational cannabis. The reason for doing so was stated by their PM, Justin Trudeau in June. He had said,
“Obviously the current approach – the current prohibition of marijuana – has not worked to protect our kids, to keep the money out of the pockets of organised crime and that’s why we’re bringing in a new legalised framework around marijuana.”
The province of Newfoundland was the first to sell weed as soon as the clock hit 12 AM and hoards of people rushed in to buy some of that sweet, sweet cannabis. New York Times has reported that bars and restaurants won’t be selling the drug and it’ll only be available at government and private stores. In addition to that, legal marijuana will be low on THC (tetrahydrocannabinol).
However, netizens weren’t in the mood to worry about the technicalities of the newly-passed law. Because they were busy thinking about how to move to Canada.

This is a progressive move from Justin Trudeau and debunks the stigma around weed. Do you think we’ll see a move like this in our country anytime soon?
