World’s biggest sports event, the Olympics just got an artistic touch! Highly anticipated, Breakdancing was in the running to gain a spot in the extravagant sports event. Well, the dance form finally received a thumbs up from the organization.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) voted unanimously in favor of including breakdancing as a sport in 2024 Olympics. “The IOC session voted unanimously for their inclusion in the 2024 program, but the sports face one final review in late 2020 before a final decision is taken”, IOC President Thomas Bach said.

Surfing, climbing and skateboarding have also been finalized to join the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, reports BBC. They will be monitored by the IOC and based on their performance as new sports. A final decision will be taken on their inclusion in the Paris Olympics in 2024.

Reports state that the four sports will have a total 248 athletes, both men and women split equally. The organizers aim at introducing events that are “more gender-balanced, younger and urban” in the tournament.

“As well as being spectacular and creative, they generate strong engagement among young people. They also project the values that we hold dear in terms of openness and diversity,” Tony said, reports BBC.

The initiative comes after IOC introduced a new set of rules for the countries where the games are organized. The new rules give special power to the host nation of adding a new sport to the tournament based on the popularity of it in the particular area that can help in adding to the Games’ appeal.

We hope things fall in place and breakdancing becomes a part of the Olympics soon. Our country will surely excel at it and bring home a gold, right?
