Blind Man Rapes A Blind Woman And She Recognises Him in Court With His Voice

The world is truly an unruly place. And no matter how tired we get after a day of bad news, endless striving and the feeling of being stuck in a rut, there seems no out. While the optimist in me keeps telling me that everything will get better with time, my brain keeps asking, ‘BUT… WHEN?’

Humanity breathed its last when a widowed blind woman, with an 8-year-old daughter was raped in the pretext of marriage in Gurugram. A blind man, Saurabh Kapoor, who worked as a trainee in a pvt. bank, reportedly raped her for 5 months!

Public prosecutor, Arvind Sharma spoke to the Times of India and said that it was a very tough case, as both the accused and survivour were completely blind. Explaining how he cracked the case, he said,

“With the help of the call details, their locations were matched at relevant times, which corroborated the survivor’s version. Also, the accused was made to speak 2-3 sentences in the court and she recognised him.”

In a report that was submitted to the police, the woman spoke about the details of the agony that she has been through.

After the death of her husband in 2014, which was deemed as suicide by the police, the wife suspected a different story and wanted to probe. One of her friends introduced her to Saurabh, who promised her a good lawyer. On May 30, 2015, he took her to Gurugram to meet a lawyer, but…

“…but instead of taking Me to the lawyer, he took me to a guest house in Gurgaon, where he raped me.”

She then goes on to explain that he promised her marriage, exploited her and took her hard-earned money too. Describing her ordeal, she said,

“When I started crying, he asked me to be quiet and said that he would marry me. Over the next five months, he sexually exploited me on the pretext of marriage. He also took money from me on a number of occasions. After some time, he said he did not want to continue the relationship.”

She approached an NGO for help and later her case was forwarded to DCP (west) in Gurgaon. The court will pronounce the punishment in the next hearing on July 24.

Words fall short to describe her ordeal. After losing her husband, she was subjected to withering pain and agony. As the evil perpetrator has been caught, we can only hope that she and her daughter find the courage to start their lives afresh.
