16 Bizzare And Unreal Flags From Around The World

A country’s flag is its symbol of pride. In fact, it is a mini-representation of the entire country. Just the mere look at a flag should instil the feelings of patriotism in one’s heart. Like how our flag does.

Which is why, flags must be very intelligently designed, because otherwise, they will make a country look like a confused weirdo globally.

Now while the people high on knowledge about countries might already be aware of the following list, those who aren’t, are likely to be surprised when I say Mozambique’s flag as an AK 47 on it, and Wallonia’s has a hen (or maybe a cock, can’t decide) on it!

So presenting, the most bizarre of the flags of various countries.

1. Sicily

Head appearing from the middle of the three connected legs is a sight too creepy to even imagine.

Well, the symbol is called a triskelion. The three bent legs allegedly, symbolise the three points of the triangular shaped island of Sicily. And that head with wheat ears is of Medusa.

2. Wallonia

The flag is called the ‘bold rooster‘.

Well, I don’t doubt that. It sure is bold, and red hot!!

3. Hawaii

Flagception.

4. North Caucasian Emirate

Doesn’t this pattern remind you of the scary clowns?

Sleep well, you.

5. Mozambique

With this display of AK 47 along with the bayonet, the flag is the first in the world to feature a modern rifle as a design. The motive, however, is to symbolise vigilance and defence through the weapons and the importance of education through the open book.

Well, to me it looks like an elaborate official serving of violence and education on the same platter.

They had announced a competition in the year 2005 to select the new flag for the country, but till date, this one remains put.

6. Bermuda

Apparently, the mysteries of Bermuda triangle are just as intriguing to the people of the country as they are to us. And maybe that explains this flag with a lion holding a shield, that features a shipwreck.

7. Flag of the Benin Empire

How’s this at all appropriate?

The current official flag of Benin is a tricolour of green, yellow and red blocks. This one is an ancient flag, which allegedly, represented the Benin’s empire. Very little is know about the flag, but thanks to its peculiar design, it has gained a lot of modern interest.  The flag is on display in the Greenwich Museum.

8. Albania

We just have to make 24 spoke lines, whereas these guys have to make 25 curvy feathers for each wing, and the tail, when drawing it out.

Don’t even get me started on the double-headed eagle, which by the way, amidst the red of strength and valour, represents the sovereignty of the state.

9. Flag of the Armed Forces of the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya

Why break head over a flag? All it does is flutter anyway.

The forces, however, are now disbanded.

10. Isle of Man

A down-shot of an unusual man with three legs doing acrobatics in a circus- was my first thought when I saw this.

But, what it is perceived as, is a triskelion, which just like Sicily, is considered a symbol of the Isle of Man as well.

11. Province of Antwerp (Belgium)

This is how a Rubik’s cube would look when spread out. Or maybe a chess board on drugs.

12 Kyrgyzstan

You always see a cricket ball everywhere!

That’s the Sun in the middle.

13. Swaziland

The intention is to remind the country of Swazi military traditions.

14. Fryslan (Netherlands)

Yes, you guessed it absolutely right!

The little heart-like motifs on the white stripes represent the leaves of water-lilies.

*Applause*

15. Flag of the Earth- Now, this is not bizarre. Just for the knowledge sake. 🙂

There are many versions of the flag of our blue planet, however, no government body has given any an ‘official recognition’. This flag, in particular, was designed by a Swedish artist, Oskar Pernefeldt, in May 2015, the 7 circles representing the 7 continents on Earth.

The sole aim of the flag is to pass a message that we all share the same planet and hence, should stay united despite the geographical boundaries, and do our bits to take care of the Earth.

16. Mars – This is not so bizarre design-wise. But, the fact that there is a flag for Mars is bizarre enough.

Because who is there on the planet to use this flag as a representational symbol of the celestial body in the entire universe, or I am sorry, to represent it before the Earth! And if life forms actually exist on the planet and have brains as developed as ours, they must be real mad over this.

The stripes on the tricolour represent Mars, its exploration, and its ultimate conversion into a planet with life like ours.

After such crazy flag designs, I can’t help but feel relieved over the fact that at least flag-wise India looks neat globally. 😉
