November 4, 2008, will always be remembered as a day of paramount importance in the history of the United States. The day marked Barack Hussein Obama as the country’s 44th president, ruling out the last racial barrier in American politics. Since then, Obama’s historic eight years in the White House, saw him earn a colossal amount of respect due to his extraordinary ability to deal with people.
Almost two years after he walked out of his memorable presidential legacy, Obama took a look back at the moment, which made him sit at the top of the world. In a video released by the ‘The Obama Foundation’, the country’s first black chief executive shed light on the feelings of his mother-in-law at that hour.
Describing the moment as an emotional one, Obama said that his mother-in-law could hardly figure out what had just happened.
“I sat next to her and grabbed her hand and we held hands, and just as it was announced that the projections were I was going to win, I said, ‘How are you feeling?” She responded: “Well, it’s just a little overwhelming, isn’t it?”
Obama tried to picture the moment through her mother-in-law’s eyes, who has always been restricted to limits throughout her life. For someone who grew up in an extremely isolated Chicago and had her fair amount of struggles as a working-class lady, it was nothing less than a fairytale.
“For what was true for her was that something she might not have ever imagined possible had happened.”
“And her daughter was going to be the next first lady of the United States.”

Nothing short of an epic.
I thought about Marian Robinson a lot during the Obama years. She lived in the White House for eight years. Born in 1937, almost 20 years before the Civil Rights Act. And 70 years later, she was calling the White House home. Just an amazing story. https://t.co/eESlszuXgq

We can just hope.
I wonder if there will come a time when I can watch President Obama speak without crying for all we have lost – and all that might have been. Will we ever have that hope again? https://t.co/3KvC2OUtqM
