Many foreigners are fascinated by Indian cuisine, for instance, an Aussie group previously sang about ‘papad’ to teach kids about Indian food. But two neighbors ended up having a row over baingan ki sabzi in a recent bizarre incident.
It all started when an anonymous South Asian woman took to Reddit to share a confrontation with her neighbor, whom she gave the pseudonym ‘Linda’, which left her shocked. She narrated how Linda had to attend an important meeting and she dropped off her 7-year-old son for a few hours with a packed lunch containing a vegetable sandwich and orange juice, asking the woman to babysit him. Linda additionally informed her that the boy was allergic to almonds and not to give him any sweets, Times Now reports.
The babysitter then proceeded to make her own lunch consisting of roti and baingan ki sabzi (aubergine curry), which intrigued the boy. He asked her if he could “take a bite”, to which she agreed. She recalled, “He ended up loving it and ate two rotis. I was happy to see him gulp all that up but unfortunately, he was full from the rotis so he barely ate his sandwich.”
Later that day, Linda came over to pick her son up and thanked the neighbor for her help. However, upon discovering that her son had eaten “ethnic food”, she returned to her neighbor’s home furious. She said that the babysitter had “no right” to feed her son that, stating “God knows what’s in it.”
“She said that she was trying to transition her son into the vegan lifestyle and I just sabotaged it from giving him food she has never even heard off,” the babysitter added. “I tried explaining to her that what he ate is completely vegan-friendly and is very healthy and, needless to say, yummy, or else Ben wouldn’t have it all by himself. But she was in no mood to listen.” Linda further said that the food “would’ve been so spicy that it could cause her son to fall sick”.
The babysitter ended her ordeal on a dejected note writing, “Linda called me an a**hole for feeding other kids without the parents’ permission, and I kind of feel like one.” You can read her entire post here:
