Karnataka saw a surplus in rain for consecutive years but in 2023, monsoon failed. The water levels of Krishnaraja Sagar Dam hit a five-year low and the underground water table levels have also depleted, aggravating the crisis, reported The Hindu. According to Deputy Chief Minister and Water Resources Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Karnataka has not witnessed such a “severe drought” in the last 30-40 years.
Deccan Herald reports that the crisis has been so severe that it is affecting the day-to-day lives of people living in the state, especially those living in Bengaluru, to the point that it has become unsustainable. Techies are fleeing to their hometowns. However, they are simultaneously also paying rent.
However, an autorickshaw driver in Bengaluru came to the rescue of a guy named Anirud C who works as a lawyer. He is 28 years old and lives with his parents and two dogs in an apartment in Whitefield. One day on his way back home from Whitefield metro station, he asked his autorickshaw driver where he could get a private water tanker supplier.
When he asked the autorickshaw driver if he had been facing a water crisis, he responded by saying no because he had bore wells. However, he was kind enough to connect Anirud to a water supplier.
“As I was heading home after dinner on Sunday, I casually asked my auto driver if he had a water crisis. He said no as he has bore wells. He even connected me to a tanker supplier,” Moneycontrol quoted him saying.
As the temperature in Bengaluru has been inching towards 40 degrees Celsius, Anirud said that he and his family have been using the waste water from RO purifier to clean the house.
“Historically, we have never experienced any water crisis or rely on water tankers. This year, around February we began to face water shortage and by the end of the month, we figured out that this may become a bigger problem and all of us (the apartment residents) began to look for a supplier. And on March 5, I came across the auto driver,” Anirud further divulged.
How kind it is of the autorickshaw driver to help the guy and his family in a time of need! 🙂
