Anubhav Sinha Says Nepotism Is A ‘Concerted Effort To Make Bollywood Look Bad’

Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely demise has not only re-ignited the debate on nepotism but also led to several celebrities speaking against the injustice in the industry. From Manoj Bajpayee to Sushmita Sen, a number of people are sharing their first-hand experience about the inequalities in B-town.

Speaking of which, during a virtual discussion, filmmaker Anubhav Sinha spoke about nepotism and said that there is a “concerted effort” by people to make the Bollywood industry look like a bad place, reports Times of India. In the interview, Vani Tripathi Tikoo, a member of the Central Board of Film Certification even questioned Anubhav about his perspective on SSR’s death as an outsider.

To which, he responded, “Obviously, this is tragic. But what is going on in the aftermath of that is a farce. Suddenly, there’s this crowd of a whole lot of people who have become the advocates of outsiders. They don’t understand what outsiders mean and what insiders mean. That has nothing to do with the industry. Suddenly, they have the right of question, and then this new troll brigade.”

He further added that people are conveniently targeting big shots like Karan Johar now but they are forgetting that such people have launched not just star kids but others as well.

“KJO has also launched a guy called Sidharth Malhotra who’s from Delhi, and who’s not from any family (from the industry). Sidharth Malhotra is a star because Karan Johar kept on backing him. And I’m sure there are many more names. Suddenly, it is about Ekta Kapoor and Karan Johar and nepotism.

Anubhav even questioned what the word Nepotism truly means, reports the Republic World. He said,

“I don’t know what the meaning of nepotism is. I’m an outsider. What if my son wants to be in the film industry, is it nepotism? If I hire my brother as my manager, is it nepotism? There is this concerted effort to make the industry look like a dirty place. The rest of the world is too holy!”
