The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) has been the foremost authority when it comes to the English language all over the world. From a playing simple game of scrabble to the writing of academic papers, we always turn to the OED for any English related query. Well, your next game of scrabble just got a little more interesting, especially for the South Indians!
The Oxford English Dictionary just recognised ‘Aiyoh’ and ‘Aiyah’ as real words in English (South Indians rejoice!).
Scrumdiddlyumptious (delicious) and yogasana are a few other words which were updated in the month of September.
Being about 150 years old and with over 600,000 entries, the Oxford English Dictionary is considered a ‘definitive record of the English language’.
And now the word ‘Aiyoh’ is part of this definitive record!
I’m certainly not playing scrabble with a South Indian anytime soon! 😛
